Yankee Dawg Sulu
Oct. 20th, 2006 10:27 amWas reading the paper and saw that George Takei will be in a play in San Jose next year.
I've seen "Yankee Dawg You Die" by Philip Kan Gotanda a few times. A two-character play, so it's obvious which part Takei will take on. It's about Asian American actors and Hollywood. While I don't think it will be updated/rewritten (it was originally presented in the late '80's), I wonder how or if Takei's coming out will be directorially underlined or by subtext enrich (or weaken) the presentation.
Over the years I've attended Asian American Theater Company productions. A few years ago I had a season subscription, but the front office was very disorganized and I even made a complaint to Sean Lim, the Artistic Director (who seemed involved in many aspects of the Company).
Guess I'll go and maybe even say "hello" to Mr. Takei.
