Oct. 22nd, 2006 09:54 pmSpent the weekend with mom & sis. Mom got her hearing aids on Wednesday afternoon and she continues to get used to them. It's been tough on several fronts. Since she has arthritis (plus she had surgery on her wrists for carpal-tunnel syndrome decades before it became well-known) and her left side still isn't fully recovered from the stroke in January, she has a really tough time getting the h.a. in her ears by herself. Out is somewhat easier.
The most surprising to her, I think, was that she could hear herself. Too well. She almost immediately disliked the sound of her voice, so she's taken to speaking with less volume. And eating is the worst. She says it sounds like she chewing on rocks and the stress has caused her to eat less. We were told mom would gradually get used to herself. We tell her it's only been a few days and we're glad she can hear us speaking without getting loud. I hope she doesn't [edited entry to end the sentence] give up too soon without giving herself a chance.
Another frustration was not being able to solve a problem my sister's having with her laptop. Oh, I guess I can ask for help here. I'll do a separate post -- it involves not being able to use dsl when the ethernet cable is directly connected, but she can use wireless as well as dial-up. More later. Thanks in advance.
Otherwise, it was good, as usual, to be spending time together. We went for a drive today, ending up at Walnut Creek. Dinner at a Persian place, Bijan. Haven't been to many Persian places, though I've been to "Mediterranean" places that had some of the dishes on the Bijan menu. Yum. I'll write more about that later, too.
We're planning for Thanksgiving time and the end of the year. Yay
