Recent music stuff in my life
Mar. 13th, 2007 10:47 pmAlmost two months ago I saw a performance by Eclipse Trip,
obadiah's band, a trio consisting of sitar, guitar, electric bass, vocals and occasional percussion machine. Fun show. Interesting sounds from the mix of instruments.
In early March I attended the filk convention, Consonance. The weekend started with picking up
ohiblather and husband from SFO on Friday, lunch at a "California" food restaurant, Hobee's (love the blueberry coffeecake!), and headed down to Milpitas for the con. Knowing Debbie was interested in breads, I handed over savory and sweet baked goods from Acme Bread (this is the Ferry Building link, but I live near and went to the Berkeley outlet).
The best part of the con itself was spending time reconnecting with friends. It wasn't until this year that I realized how stressed out I was last year with Cindy's passing, etc. The only singing I did was Sunday morning at the consuite where I pulled out Cindy's songs after the requisite parody of "Ladyhawke!" for
flower_cat. Most of the rest of the time was talking and eating with friends and acquaintances (and wine/scotch tasting with Debbie & Jeff, and a couple others).
Last Wednesday, bf2007 agreed to attend a concert of an acquaintance, André Morgan, who performed at one of San Francisco's main cabaret venues, The Plush Room. Met him a decade ago when I was in the a cappella group, From Top To Bottom, and he asked us to perform at an event he was putting together. Found out he worked for Wells Fargo Bank, too, and we would see each other here and there over the years. He was introduced by Holly Near, who later sang an encore with him. The performance was a blend of piano pieces, vocals w/piano and a couple of a cappella numbers. All original compositions, a few of the piano-only were similar to each other and maybe a bit too, um, soothing. Mostly liked André's vocals, though, and his on-stage persona was fun. Got his CD, too.
Speaking of CDs, I received the new
caciealbum in the mail. Yay! Will listen to it tonight!
In the near future: The True Colors Tour. Tix already ordered!
