E. Lynn Harris Day
Sep. 25th, 2009 02:15 pmE. Lynn Harris, a favorite author of mine, passed away on July 23 of this year. He had other books written, in full or part, and I expected and hoped some would see the light of publication.
MAMA DEAREST hit the stands this past Tuesday. There are a number of "E. Lynn Harris Day Tribute Tour" events occurring today across the U.S., but sadly none in the San Francisco Bay Area. I checked some of the usual locations (Marcus Books, A Different Light Books, SF and Oakland Public Libaries) without success. Tananarive Due's Facebook mentioned Terry McMillan possibly being involved in one in this area so I sent an email to Ms. McMillan's fan mail e-address, but haven't heard back. Sigh. I did wear one of my "Dreamgirls" t-shirts in his memory - he had a small role in the staged concert version and I even had him sign the CD insert a few years ago.
I bought a copy of the book and have mixed feelings about reading it, wanting to save it for a special time. Maybe I'll wait until Mr. Harris' next book is published ...
