These were alternate Subject lines I was going to use:

"I touched his plug -- it was warm, clean and well-used."

or

"The crotch-level view was maintained throughout the concert."

or

"He responded to the man's shout with, 'I love you, too, but only in a Brokeback Mountain sort of way."

Yes, I was at the very front of the stage at Bimbo's (365 Club), though there were a few others clustered there before me. When I first walked in and got to my chosen spot, I asked the guy next to me if he was holding space for others, and he said, "just one, my wife. What about you?" I told him it was just me, but the last time I saw GBS (Slim's, also in San Francisco) there were annoying young women forcing their way through to the front.

He said, "Yeah, I had to push them away, too. They were a pain." I agreed with a nod and we bonded on the basis of those shared memories. As it turned out there were several of "those women" that popped up to my left, but I stood my ground, despite numerous attempts to be pushed aside. Several times during the concert the guy yelled, "Hold the line!" and I grinned back at him and his wife.

GBS did two sets, one first one showcasing the new album, "The Hard and The Easy," the second packed with favorites. Both were very high energy with some silliness in between (like the comment about the sea lions at Pier 39).

This was the first time I saw Murray Foster (of Moxy Fruvous) in place of Darrell Power on bass and vocals. Didn't find much difference in the overall vocal sound, which I guess is good.

I must say I enjoyed Bob's instrumentals but am not so keen on his longer hair. Loved his bouzouki's sound!

Can't believe I got another t-shirt. Wasn't able to help myself. Why couldn't I have been satisfied with the set list and guitar pick? Hee!

Though not on the set list, they added "Clearest Indication" and it was so beautiful. Someone in the back had yelled that request a few times. Maybe if I had been vocal about wanting to hear "Boston and St John's" they would've done it, too.

So, yes, I was directly in front of lead singer Alan most of the evening and during the second encore between songs the guitar cable/cord fell off the mic stand. As Alan was handed his guitar and moved forward, I reached, picked it up and lifted it to him. Our eyes met and he thanked me. We had a moment. :)

Due to the height of the stage, I really did have the aforementioned level of view. This situation did not detract from my enjoyment of the concert.

And another guy not far behind me exclaimed, "I love you Alan!" which prompted the Brokeback response. The same guy later shouted "I love you Séan!" Fickle San Franciscan.
