More than a few recognizable names from movies/TV/music as well as well-known theatre folks. I'm pleased to see Lisa Kron on the list. While I didn't catch her play, "Well," when it was in San Francisco, I saw more than a few performances over the years when she was with the acting troupe, The Five Lesbian Brothers.

Also, it's a bit odd to see Stephen Lynch, the comedic singer/songwriter with a wonderfully strange sensibility whom I'd seen both on the Comedy Channel and live in concert, who made the leap to a musical, "The Wedding Singer." When the show premiered in Seattle earlier this year I was somewhat interested. The lead role was probably a good fit, if the musical was like the movie.

And "Lestat" got a couple of nominations! It'll probably be run over by "The Color Purple" bandwagon.

Wow, this is a pretty darn low-profile year for Broadway it looks like. None of those plays or musicals has really made a big splash as far as I know.

From my West Coast view, it appeared that several shows had buzz and then didn't get great reviews. I read a local review that "The Drowsy Chaperone" was pretty good. There's the Oprah Winfrey tie-in for "The Color Purple." The Julia Roberts Broadway debut was given a thumbs-down. The Sweeney Todd revival with Michael Cerveris and Patti Lupone was well-received, but maybe it was expected. The Disney "Tarzan" got mixed reviews, didn't it? Oh, well.
