Dad would have turned 87 today

We love ice cream!

Was going through a box of photographs for this year's dad post. I've never been interested enough over the years to do more than take pictures on occasion, get the film developed, take a look, then put them somewhere. Rarely organize them in an album. Almost never dated or tracked them. I'd gone through fifteen or so packets of pics when I got to the source of the above, where I scanned and cropped.

We were in the city of Calistoga that day. It was dad, mom, sis & me. I'm fairly certain my grandmother was alive at the time; don't remember why she wasn't with us. It was a warm day. Ice cream cones all around.

Maybe I'll post the full pic someday. Like after I've organized all my snapshots. :)

I love you and miss you, Dad.

Thank you!

Btw, among one batch of pics there were some of you, Diana, Julia and even one of Sandy Schreiber (?), plus others.

How long ago was this pic taken?

*hugs*

Mid- to late-80's? or so for the pic. Thanks, will get the hug in person soon.

I hope that this Feb is less stressful than last year

Thank you! I'm with you on the "less stressful" part. In looking back, I really did get clobbered with the passings of dad (7/05), a good friend (1/06), and a favorite author, our Octavia Butler (2/06), plus my mom's stroke(s) (1/06). I'm hoping the "year" was the Chinese calendar, since we'll be starting a new one in a few weeks.

Hang in there, yourself!

Many hugs, m'friend.

Thanks. See you in less than two months for an in-person hug exchange!

You look a lot like him!

Thanks for posting. Here's hoping for a much less stressful year.

Yes, less stressful would be good! Working on it.

**huggles**

That's a great photo, it makes me smile. I hope it makes you smile, too.

Thanks for the huggles -- hope you're doing okay these days.

Ice cream by itself makes me smile. While I don't have strong recollections of the day, this pic is a very nice reminder.

Hugs. I miss mine too at random times.

Hey, in the pics I did go through I have some of you! Do you recall being spanked by [livejournal.com profile] rabbijeffty? Heh, heh. How about being in Arizona ... Larry? Jay? Also, some of you and Ed at Muir Woods. Did I ever send you copies?

[identity profile] folkmew.livejournal.com 2007-02-02 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)

Gee! You'd think I'd remember something as titallating sounding at that eh? (grin)

I do remember Arizona and Larry and Jay. I was in touch with Larry sometime in the last couple years but haven't tried again recently. I keep thinking of him because of the reading/work I'm doing on Arts Education.

Ah. Right. I credit you with a large part of Ed's braveness about food. He still tells people sometimes about all the kinds of food you introduced him to. :-)

I don't think I have copies of any of them (can't swear about Larry/Jay because I think in some box somewhere I have some of those - but whether they are ones I took or ones you took is a mystery. :-)

Hm...I can't actually say that I recall this spanking, either. I'm tempted to think that Joey is just being provocative (he doesn't actually say that he has a picture of this, you'll note—just asks if you recall such a thing). On the other hand, I do have hazy memories of a number of playful shenanigans when you were here in California all those years ago... :-)

You do realize that you sound quite like either an old Hepburn movie or perhaps a Wodehouse novel right? Playful shenanigans. Heh.

yes yes... ah... youth! (grin)

[identity profile] rabbijeffty.livejournal.com 2007-02-03 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
While neither was my conscious intention, I'm quite fond of both old Hepburn movies and P.G. Wodehouse novels. So, if I come across as one or both, that's fine with me!

[identity profile] sleigh.livejournal.com 2007-02-02 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
A nice memory... *hugs*

[identity profile] trektone.livejournal.com 2007-02-02 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! In the pics I went through I believe I have a couple of you. Early 80's Worldcon? Denvention or Chicon -- were you at either/both?

[identity profile] sleigh.livejournal.com 2007-02-02 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Wasn't in Denver, but Denise and I were at Chicon in that time frame...

Anytime you want to feel your Dad's love... all you have to do is remember. He's still with you... inside. Still loving you.

Hugs

Yeah, it's true. However, I need more memory storage, and my motherboard is overfull. Hee!

Thanks for the hugs!

Big Hug

It sounds like you had a very good relationship with your dad, and you obviously miss him very much. Wish I could have had that with my father (and he's been gone ten years now). Maybe one of these days I'll post something about him, but not now.
See you at FKO.

*Hug*
